Book Tour & Review: Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn

Hello, friends! 🥳 Welcome to my stop for the book tour of Undercover Princess, the first installment of The Rosewood Chronicles YA fantasy series by Connie Glynn. Not that I’ve stopped enjoying my epics, but every now and then I love a good princess story. So here we are! 👑

When fairy tale obsessed Lottie Pumpkin starts at the infamous Rosewood Hall, she is not expecting to share a room with the Crown Princess of Maradova, Ellie Wolf. Due to a series of lies and coincidences, 14-year-old Lottie finds herself pretending to be the princess so that Ellie can live a more normal teenage life.

Lottie is thrust into the real world of royalty – a world filled with secrets, intrigue and betrayal. She must do everything she can to help Ellie keep her secret, but with school, the looming Maradovian ball and the mysterious new boy Jamie, she’ll soon discover that reality doesn’t always have the happily ever after you’d expect…

A thrilling world of parties, politics and bad ass princesses, this is the first book in the brand new series THE ROSEWOOD CHRONICLES.

Disclaimer: Yes, I received a complimentary ebook copy, but a review was not required and all thoughts and opinions expressed here are unbiased and my own.

What a delightful introduction to The Rosewood Chronicles! While it’s not the first book I’ve read that featured royals and boarding schools, the characters are an utter joy, turning the overdone trope of royal switcharoo into something more magical. Lottie is incredibly charming, and I especially love the bond she ends up forming with Ellie and Jamie, as complex as it sometimes might be with Maravish royal life and “rules” complicating matters. (I do want to see more of Ollie, too. And Binah!)

My favorite part though is the whole thing about Partizans and Portmans. It’s a beautiful, unique piece of lore that opens up a lot of possibilities in storytelling. Sure, we can’t really avoid politics and betrayal when we’re talking about royals, but Connie found a way to impart a more powerful message: loyalty.

May this book be an inspiration to everyone everywhere. The characters might be teenagers, but who says adults can’t learn a thing or two from them? Be righteous, be resolute, be resourceful. Be kind, be brave, be unstoppable.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Recommended Listening: As I mentioned in my open call for books to review, I’ll now be adding a song to my reviews! It’ll be one that either sums up the book for me, or what I’d imagine in a trailer were it a movie… or maybe even an original inspired by it 😉

I have something different this time, though. Lottie being called Pumpkin Princess immediately brought to mind a Japanese RPG called Little Princess, as the main character, Kururu, is also called Pumpkin Princess. But for a different reason: she wears bloomer shorts that look like pumpkins, LOL!

This is her intro song. It’s in Japanese, but hey, you can tell she’s got a Lottie vibe going, right? 😂
